Empowering Young Minds: OLI Successfully Stages “Empowerment through Creative Expressions” in Dhaka

One Light Institute’s “Empowerment through Creative Expressions” project was successfully staged on August 5 at the Studio Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
It was a full‑house performance, with over 111 audience members filling the theatre—teachers, parents, students, and community members who offered heartfelt and enthusiastic praise throughout the evening.

Audience feedback reflected what OLI’s earlier research has consistently shown: participation in creative arts activities significantly supports emotional, cognitive, and physical development in children. The young performers demonstrated remarkable growth, confidence, and expressive ability, echoing the impact seen in OLI’s previous drama‑based initiatives.

This creative training initiative was conceived, initiated, and organized by The One Light Institute (OLI), USA, as part of its mission to nurture expressive arts and empower young learners through imaginative engagement.

This initiative builds on OLI’s work since 2019, when the project was first launched across multiple districts in Bangladesh.

The program marks a significant milestone as Bangladesh’s first school‑based mime‑art project, bringing creative expression directly into the school’s extra‑curricular activities.*

The workshop drew inspiration from the beloved poems “Bir Purush” and “Lichu Chor” by Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, and was conducted by Mime Artist Shahidul Bashar Murad.

The program was delivered in collaboration with OLI’s local partners The Mummers and CTARA, Bangladesh, and is currently being held at Takshoshila Biddyaloy, Dhaka.
